While traveling to Gisborne this week, while managing to avoid the worst of the wet as it flooded in my region, I had a lot of time to contemplate. I think that faced with such events that have happened other the weekend it is natural to have some introspective moments.
I think all that I can say is that in some respects New Zealand dodged a bullet on Saturday. How there managed to be no fatalities is miraculous. What I can say on the library and local government front is how impressed I have been with the absolute professionalism displayed in such a trying time. I was proud to be a kiwi after this week.
One thing I wanted to do was give a shout out to Waimakariri Libraries. If you’re on twitter you should follow their @first_lines account. It is an inspired concept for an institutional account. The concept is so simple and brilliant I kicked myself for not thinking of it 😆 They tweet the first line of a book and a link back to the catalog.
