I am not in a position to really judge how this will impact on institutions, but it seems fair to me. I will be interested to see how institutional members will respond. I was also curious to see a limit to the number of CPD discounts offered. Is that per calendar year or to each CPD event? Has that changed and how will that impact on institutions supporting CPD?
Changes to LIANZA Institutional Membership Fee Structure – Effective 1 July 2010
LIANZA Council appointed Paddy Plunket (Chair), Moira Fraser, Rosalie Blake and Ross Becker to a sub-committee to review the institutional membership fee structure in April 2008.
In May 2009 Council approved a draft proposal which was part of the governance structure review for member consultation which was via a survey. Overall feedback about setting fees based on Full Time Equivalent staffing (FTE) rather than collection budgets was positive as it was clear and fair. However, it was strongly suggested that further work needed to be carried out on the fee bands.
Further work progressed with several iterations considered by Council. In October, on the Sunday prior to Conference, a strategic forum was held at which Regional and SIG chairs, Committee chairs and LIANZA representatives on various bodies reviewed the progress that had made on the proposed institutional membership fee structure. This meeting provided feedback suggesting that a 7th fee band be added to provide for the impact of library consolidation e.g. the Auckland Super City.
At its meeting in December 2009, LIANZA Council approved the new structure for institutional membership fees effective from 1 July 2010 and the fee bands are as follows:
|No. of FTE staff||Fee||CPD Discounts|
|Band 5||101 – 175||$2000||2|
|Band 6||176 – 499||$3000||3|
Each institution covered by the new structure will receive an email from LIANZA office advising their fee band, with the opportunity to correct the information in plenty of time before invoicing for 2010/11.
